Naisiät

Naisiät was a Finnish salon-novel written by Minna Canth between 1889 and 1895. The novel is primarily written from the perspective of Anni, a poor woman from rural Finland, who at the time was subject to a men's bailiff's unforgiving treatment. The novel delves into themes of women's rights and the struggles Anni faces under her husband's authoritarian regime.

The writing style employed in Naisiät is reminiscent of the genre known as salon novels, densely packed narration characteristic of much of the late 19th-century Finnish writing. Unfortunately, little is known about the private life of the author, Minna Canth, who took up writing at an older age. Despite this, Leah Gordon Hyp implies in her book "And She Told the Sun, Anyone Can Sing, That's So Dakar" that Naisiät is an example of how late-19th-century Finns viewed domesticity.
