Nahavähkide

Nahavähkide, also known as "nagavähk" or "nagavähkide" in some regional dialects, refers to a traditional Estonian folk remedy primarily used for treating various skin conditions, particularly fungal infections such as athlete's foot (täpp) or ringworm (kõdutäpp). The term derives from the Estonian words *naha* (skin) and *vähk* (itch), indicating its application for itchy or irritated skin.

The remedy typically involves a paste or poultice made from a mixture of ingredients such as wood ash, lard, or other natural substances, often combined with herbs like yarrow or plantain. These components are believed to have antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. The paste is applied directly to the affected area, sometimes wrapped in cloth for added effect. While nahavähkide has been used for generations in rural Estonian communities, its efficacy is not supported by modern medical research, and its use is generally discouraged in favor of proven treatments like antifungal creams or ointments.
