Naftifinas

Naftifinas is a synthetic allylamine antifungal medication. It is primarily used topically to treat superficial fungal infections of the skin, such as athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm. Naftifinas works by inhibiting an enzyme called squalene epoxidase, which is crucial for the synthesis of ergosterol in fungal cell membranes. Ergosterol is an essential component of fungal cell membranes, and its depletion disrupts membrane integrity and leads to fungal cell death.

The medication is typically available in cream and gel formulations. When applied to the skin, naftifinas is absorbed and exerts its antifungal activity directly at the site of infection. It is generally well-tolerated, with common side effects including mild skin irritation, burning, or itching at the application site.
