NNRTIlääkkeet
NNRTIlääkkeet, or non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors, are a class of antiretroviral drugs used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. These medications work by targeting the HIV enzyme reverse transcriptase. This enzyme is crucial for HIV replication, as it converts the virus's RNA into DNA, which can then be integrated into the host cell's genome. NNRTIs bind to a specific site on the reverse transcriptase enzyme, altering its shape and preventing it from functioning correctly. This blockage disrupts the viral replication cycle, thereby reducing the amount of HIV in the body.
NNRTIs are typically used in combination with other antiretroviral drugs, such as nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors
