NGäll

NGäll is a constructed language (conlang) developed for speculative fiction, linguistic experimentation, and world-building. It is designed to be spoken by communities in northern-inspired settings and has appeared in multiple works and fan projects. The language aims for a balance between expressive nuance and ease of learning for readers and players.

Phonology and writing: NGäll uses a largely Latin-based script with diacritics, including ä, to distinguish close vowel contrasts. Its phonology favors a rounded set of vowels and a small consonant inventory, with contrastive voicing and a limited set of approximants. Syllables typically follow a simple CV or CVC pattern, and stress is syllable-timed, often on the penultimate syllable.

Grammar and syntax: NGäll is largely agglutinative, attaching suffixes to stems to indicate grammar and semantics. It marks nouns for case via suffixes and uses an SVO base order, though the language permits flexibility for emphasis. Verbs incorporate tense, aspect, mood, and evidentiality in affixes, while pronouns distinguish inclusive and exclusive forms. Articles are optional or context-driven.

History and influence: The language was devised by a collective of conlang creators in the early 2010s and has since been refined through community-driven projects. It has influenced world-building in various media and has inspired discussions on language design, translation, and AI-assisted generation.
