Mötesfrihet

Mötesfrihet, or freedom of assembly, is a fundamental human right that allows individuals to gather peacefully in groups. This right is recognized in many international and national legal frameworks, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and various national constitutions. It protects the ability of people to come together to express their views, advocate for causes, or engage in political activity.

The right to freedom of assembly is closely linked to other civil liberties, such as freedom of speech and freedom of association. It enables collective action and is considered essential for a democratic society, allowing citizens to participate in public discourse and hold their governments accountable.

However, this freedom is not absolute. Most legal systems allow for reasonable restrictions on assembly, typically to protect public order, safety, health, or the rights and freedoms of others. These restrictions must be necessary and proportionate to the legitimate aim pursued. For example, authorities may require permits for large gatherings or prohibit assemblies that incite violence or hatred.
