Mõõtukohast refers to the concept of "scale" in Estonian, commonly used in cartography, modeling, and design. It represents the ratio between a distance on a representation and the corresponding distance in reality. This ratio is crucial for accurately depicting objects or areas in a reduced or enlarged form.

In cartography, scale is typically expressed as a ratio, such as 1:100,000. This means that one unit of measurement on the map (e.g., one centimeter) represents 100,000 of the same units in the real world (e.g., 100,000 centimeters, or one kilometer). Scales can also be shown graphically as a scale bar, which is a line marked with distances that correspond to real-world distances. Understanding the scale of a map is essential for measuring distances, calculating areas, and interpreting spatial relationships.

Similarly, in model making and architectural or engineering designs, mõõtukohast dictates the proportions. For instance, a model airplane might be built at a scale of 1:72, meaning every dimension of the model is 72 times smaller than the actual aircraft. This consistent reduction or enlargement ensures that the representation maintains the correct proportions and appearance of the original object. The choice of scale depends on the purpose of the representation, the available space, and the desired level of detail.
