Målscorer

Målscorer is a term used in Nordic languages to describe a player who scores goals, most often in association football (soccer). The word combines mål, meaning “goal,” with scorer, and denotes the player whose goals contribute most to a team’s offense in a match or competition.

Across leagues and tournaments, the primary statistic for a måls scorer is the total number of goals scored in competitive matches. Official tallies are maintained by league bodies, federations, and event organizers. Goals from penalties are counted for the player who took the kick, while own goals do not count toward that player’s goal tally. Goals in friendlies typically do not count toward official season tallies unless specified.

Recognition for leading scorers varies. The player with the most goals in a season or tournament is commonly called the top scorer and may receive a trophy such as the Golden Boot or an equivalent award. In some competitions, ties are resolved by additional criteria such as assists, minutes played, or head-to-head results, while other contests declare joint top scorers.
