Målpromoters

Målpromoters, also known as Mål proteins, are a family of proteins that play a crucial role in the regulation of gene expression in eukaryotic cells. They were first identified in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and have since been found in various organisms, including humans. Målpromoters are characterized by their ability to bind to specific DNA sequences, known as Mål elements, located upstream of target genes. For instance, in yeast, Målpromoters are essential for the proper timing of cell division and the maintenance of cell identity during budding.

The Mål proteins can form homo- or heterodimers, which can either activate or repress transcription.
