Måleforudsætninger, often translated as measurement assumptions or preconditions for measurement, refers to the foundational conditions that must be met for a measurement to be valid and meaningful. These assumptions ensure that the act of measuring accurately reflects the intended quantity without introducing extraneous influences or biases.

A primary måleforudsætning is that the measuring instrument itself must be suitable for the task. This involves considering its precision, accuracy, range, and sensitivity relative to the quantity being measured. For instance, using a ruler with millimeter markings to measure a building's height would be inappropriate due to insufficient range and precision.

Another crucial aspect is the stability and consistency of the quantity being measured. If the quantity fluctuates randomly or unpredictably during the measurement process, the resulting value may not represent a true or stable state. This necessitates understanding the nature of the phenomenon being observed.

Furthermore, environmental factors must be controlled or accounted for. Temperature, pressure, humidity, and external electromagnetic fields can all affect measurement outcomes, especially in scientific and industrial settings. Proper calibration of instruments and a controlled environment are often necessary to mitigate these effects.

Finally, the observer's influence, while sometimes unavoidable, should be minimized or acknowledged. In certain qualitative assessments or when instruments require manual operation, the observer's interpretation or action can introduce variability. The principle of objectivity is a key måleforudsætning here, striving for results that are independent of the individual taking the measurement.
