Märkäpesuri

Märkäpesuri is a Finnish term that translates to "wet scrubber" in English. It refers to a device used for air pollution control. Wet scrubbers work by using a liquid, typically water, to remove pollutants from exhaust flue gases. The polluted gas is brought into contact with the scrubbing liquid, which absorbs or traps the particulate matter and gaseous pollutants.

There are several types of wet scrubbers, including venturi scrubbers, packed-bed scrubbers, and spray towers. Venturi scrubbers are particularly effective at removing particulate matter, while packed-bed scrubbers are better suited for removing gaseous pollutants. Spray towers use a countercurrent flow of gas and liquid to achieve efficient removal.

The effectiveness of a wet scrubber depends on various factors, such as the type of scrubber, the properties of the pollutant, and the operating conditions, including the liquid-to-gas ratio and the contact time. After the scrubbing process, the pollutants are contained within the scrubbing liquid, which then needs to be treated or disposed of properly. This often involves separating the solid particles from the liquid, or further treating the liquid to remove dissolved pollutants. Wet scrubbers are widely used in industrial applications, such as power plants, chemical manufacturing, and cement production, to comply with environmental regulations and improve air quality.
