Märkivyyttä refers to the presence of pus, a thick, often yellowish or greenish fluid, in a wound or body cavity. Pus is composed of dead white blood cells, tissue debris, and bacteria. Its formation is a sign of the body's immune response to infection. When bacteria invade tissues, the immune system dispatches white blood cells, primarily neutrophils, to combat the invaders. These cells engulf and destroy bacteria, and in the process, they release enzymes that break down tissue. The accumulation of these dead cells, cellular debris, and liquefied tissue forms pus.
The presence of märkivyyttä typically indicates an active bacterial infection. The color and consistency of pus
