Människorätts

Människorätts, or human rights, are fundamental rights inherent to all human beings, regardless of their race, sex, nationality, ethnicity, language, religion, or any other status. These rights are universal, inalienable, and indivisible. They form the bedrock of a just and equitable society and are recognized and protected by international law.

The concept of human rights has evolved over centuries, with significant milestones including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. This declaration outlines a broad range of civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights. Examples include the right to life, liberty, and security of person; freedom from torture and slavery; freedom of thought, conscience, and religion; and the right to work, education, and adequate living standards.

International human rights law comprises treaties, customary international law, and general principles of law. States have a primary responsibility to respect, protect, and fulfill human rights within their territories. When these rights are violated, various international and national mechanisms exist to provide redress and accountability. The promotion and protection of human rights are considered essential for international peace, security, and sustainable development.
