Mähisrootoriga refers to a type of electric motor characterized by its specific winding configuration. In a mähisrootoriga motor, the rotor, which is the rotating part of the motor, is equipped with coils of wire. These coils are typically wound around iron cores and are connected to an external circuit, often through slip rings and brushes. This design allows for external resistance to be added to the rotor circuit.

The primary advantage of a mähisrootoriga design lies in its ability to control starting torque and speed. By adjusting the resistance in the rotor circuit, engineers can influence the motor's performance during startup. A higher external resistance leads to a lower starting current and a higher starting torque, which is beneficial for applications requiring significant initial force, such as cranes or conveyors. As the motor accelerates, the external resistance can be gradually reduced, allowing the motor to reach its normal operating speed efficiently.

This type of motor is often referred to as a wound-rotor motor or slip-ring motor in English. The ability to alter the rotor's electrical characteristics makes it a versatile option for applications where precise control over starting conditions is important. However, the presence of slip rings and brushes introduces a maintenance requirement due to wear and potential sparking, which can be a disadvantage compared to squirrel-cage induction motors.
