Muurla

Muurla is a village and former municipality in the Salpausselkä region of Finland. Administratively, it is now part of the larger municipality of Salo, located in the Southwest Finland region. Muurla is situated in an area characterized by its numerous lakes and forested landscapes, typical of the Finnish countryside.

Historically, Muurla was an independent municipality with a rural character, its economy largely based on agriculture and forestry. Like many Finnish rural areas, it experienced a decline in population over the latter half of the 20th century, leading to its eventual amalgamation with Salo in 2009. This merger was part of a broader trend of municipal consolidations in Finland aimed at improving efficiency and service provision.
