Muovipuristusta
Muovipuristusta, often translated as plastic extrusion, is a high-volume manufacturing process where raw plastic material is melted and formed into a continuous profile. The process begins with thermoplastic pellets, which are fed into a hopper and then into a heated barrel. Inside the barrel, a rotating screw pushes the plastic forward, melting it through friction and external heat. As the molten plastic moves through the barrel, it becomes homogenized and pressurized. It is then forced through a die, a shaped opening that determines the final cross-sectional shape of the product. The extruded plastic is cooled, typically in a water bath, which solidifies it into its desired form. This process is widely used to produce a variety of items such as pipes, tubing, window frames, films, and filaments for 3D printing. The continuous nature of extrusion makes it highly efficient for mass production.
