Multimedi

Multimedi, commonly spelled multimedia, is the use or integration of multiple media forms to convey information, tell a story, or create an interactive experience. It typically combines text, still images, audio, video, animation, and interactive elements, delivered through digital devices or other media channels. The term emphasizes the coexistence and coordination of different modalities in a single presentation.

Historically, multimedia grew from experiments with combining text and images, and gained prominence in the late 20th century with computer-based authoring, CD-ROMs, hypermedia, and the World Wide Web. Today, multimedia is a fundamental aspect of most digital content, from educational courses to entertainment and advertising.

Technologies used in multimedia include formats and tools for compression and streaming (for example, JPEG, PNG, MP3, AAC, MPEG), and authoring and development environments. On the web, HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript enable embedding and controlling audio, video, graphics, and interactive features. Virtual reality and augmented reality extend multimedia into immersive experiences.

Applications span education and training, journalism, marketing, game development, film and television production, museums, and digital publishing. Good multimedia design focuses on clarity, accessibility, and performance, balancing the strengths and limits of each medium.

Because the term is sometimes used interchangeably with multimedia, “multimedi” may appear as a misspelling or shorthand in certain texts. In reliable sources, the standard term is multimedia.
