Mullaittivu

Mullaittivu is a town and district in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Historically, it was a significant administrative and commercial center. The district is predominantly inhabited by the Tamil people and has a coastline along the Indian Ocean. The economy of Mullaittivu is largely based on agriculture, fishing, and small-scale industries. Its natural resources include fertile land for paddy cultivation and coconut plantations, as well as abundant marine life.

The region has been significantly impacted by the Sri Lankan Civil War, which lasted for nearly three decades. Mullaittivu was a stronghold for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and witnessed some of the most intense fighting during the conflict. The end of the war in 2009 brought about a period of reconstruction and rehabilitation to the district.
