Moshoeshoe
Moshoeshoe I (c. 1786 – 18 March 1870) was a king of the Sotho people who founded the Basotho nation in the eastern regions of present-day Lesotho. He united several Sotho-speaking chiefdoms into a centralized monarchy and established Thaba Bosiu, a defensible mountain fortress near what is now Maseru, as his capital. Through alliances, diplomacy, and a coordinated system of governance, he consolidated authority among diverse clans and created a recognizable political structure for the Basotho state.
