Monimaailmojen

Monimaailmojen is a Finnish term that translates to "multi-worlds" or "many worlds." It primarily refers to the Many-Worlds Interpretation (MWI) of quantum mechanics. This interpretation, proposed by Hugh Everett III in 1957, offers a solution to the measurement problem in quantum mechanics. Instead of a quantum system collapsing into a single state upon observation, the MWI suggests that all possible outcomes of a quantum measurement are realized in separate, branching universes.

In essence, each quantum event causes the universe to split. For example, if a quantum experiment has two possible outcomes, upon observation, the universe divides into two parallel universes, one for each outcome. This means that every quantum possibility is continuously unfolding in its own distinct reality. The MWI avoids the concept of wave function collapse, which is seen as an ad hoc postulate in other interpretations of quantum mechanics.

The implications of the Many-Worlds Interpretation are vast, suggesting an unimaginably large number of parallel universes constantly being created. While it provides a consistent mathematical framework, it is also a highly counter-intuitive concept and remains a subject of debate among physicists and philosophers of science. Experimental verification of the MWI is extremely challenging, making it difficult to definitively prove or disprove its validity.
