Modulatsioonidemodulatsiooni is a fundamental concept in telecommunications and signal processing, referring to the process of recovering an original information signal from a modulated carrier wave. Modulation itself is the process of encoding information onto a carrier signal, typically by altering its amplitude, frequency, or phase. Demodulation is the inverse operation, extracting the original information from the altered carrier.

There are various types of demodulation techniques, each corresponding to a specific modulation scheme. For instance, amplitude demodulation, also known as detection, is used to recover information from amplitude-modulated (AM) signals. This often involves a rectifier and a low-pass filter. Frequency demodulation, used for frequency-modulated (FM) signals, typically employs a frequency discriminator or a phase-locked loop (PLL) to convert frequency variations back into amplitude variations. Phase demodulation, for phase-modulated (PM) signals, also often utilizes a PLL.

The accuracy and effectiveness of demodulation are crucial for reliable communication. Imperfections in the transmission channel, such as noise and interference, can degrade the modulated signal, making accurate demodulation more challenging. Signal processing techniques and advanced demodulators are employed to mitigate these effects and ensure the received information is as close as possible to the original transmitted data.
