Mobiilvõrk

Mobiilvõrk, often translated as mobile network, refers to a telecommunications network that allows mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets to connect and communicate wirelessly. These networks operate using a system of base stations, also known as cell towers, which transmit and receive radio signals to and from mobile devices within a geographical area called a cell.

The mobile network is divided into many cells, each served by a base station. As a user moves from one cell to another, their device automatically connects to the next base station, ensuring continuous service. This process is called handover. The base stations are interconnected, forming a larger network that enables communication between mobile devices and also connects them to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) for making calls to landline phones and to the internet.

Mobile networks have evolved through several generations, each offering improved speeds, capacity, and new functionalities. Early generations, like 1G and 2G, focused on voice communication. 3G introduced mobile data services, enabling basic internet access. 4G, or LTE, significantly increased data speeds, making mobile internet browsing, video streaming, and app usage commonplace. The latest generation, 5G, promises even faster speeds, lower latency, and the ability to connect a vast number of devices simultaneously, paving the way for new technologies like the Internet of Things (IoT) and enhanced augmented reality (AR) experiences.
