Mittelsachsen

Mittelsachsen is a district in the Free State of Saxony, Germany. It was formed in 2008 by the merger of the former districts of Döbeln, Freiberg, and Mittweida. The district's administrative seat is Freiberg. Mittelsachsen is located in the central part of Saxony and borders the districts of Erzgebirgskreis, Vogtlandkreis, Zwickau, Leipzig, Nordsachsen, and Meißen, as well as the Czech Republic to the south.

The district is characterized by its diverse landscape, ranging from the Ore Mountains in the south to rolling hills and fertile plains in the north. The Mulde river flows through the district, and its tributaries also shape the topography. Mittelsachsen has a rich industrial history, particularly in mining and textiles. The city of Freiberg, for instance, has a long tradition of silver mining.
