Mitattavampi is a fictional species of vampire-like mite used in speculative biology and science fiction to illustrate extreme forms of host parasitism. It is described as a small arachnid in the subclass Acari that would occupy a vampiric niche by feeding on the blood of vertebrate hosts.

The organism is described as an adult about 1.5 mm long, dorsoventrally flattened, with a slender body and eight legs. It possesses a curved gnathosoma with a blade-like feeding apparatus and a specialized salivary canal that delivers anticoagulants. The cuticle bears patterns that camouflage the animal against the host’s skin.

Ecology and behavior: Mitattavampi is depicted as nocturnal and highly host-specific, typically targeting small mammals such as rodents or bats, and occasionally birds. It seeks hosts during periods of rest, attaching securely with tarsal clamps and inserting its proboscis to draw blood. Feeding episodes last several hours, after which the mite detaches and hides in crevices until the next opportunity.

Life cycle: In the fictional account, it follows a complete metamorphosis typical of mites: egg, larva (three pairs of legs), protonymph, deutonymph, and adult. Eggs are laid in the host’s nesting environment or in sheltered microhabitats near roosts; off-host survival can be limited to weeks but may extend longer in humid conditions.
