Mitalakrestä

Mitalakrestä is a Finnish military decoration awarded to individuals who have distinguished themselves in combat or other military operations. The term "mitalakrestä" translates to "medal cross" in English. It is one of the highest military decorations in Finland, second only to the Mannerheim Cross. The Mitalakrestä was established in 1918, during the Finnish Civil War, and has since been awarded to both Finnish and foreign military personnel for bravery and exceptional service.

The Mitalakrestä is typically worn on the left side of the chest, below the Mannerheim Cross if both are awarded. It consists of a silver cross with a sword and a laurel wreath, and is suspended from a ribbon with a red background and a white stripe. The medal is awarded in two classes: the first class, which is the highest, and the second class. The first class is further divided into two subclasses, based on the severity of the action in which the recipient distinguished themselves.

The Mitalakrestä is awarded by the President of Finland, on the recommendation of the Finnish Defence Forces. It is one of the most prestigious military decorations in Finland, and recipients are often hailed as national heroes.
