MirrorIt

MirrorIt is a software project that provides automated mirroring of digital content across multiple locations to improve availability, redundancy, and regional access. Designed for content publishers, software distributors, and digital archives, MirrorIt coordinates the replication of files, metadata, and configuration data between a source repository and one or more mirrors.

Architecturally, MirrorIt follows a distributed client–server model. A central metadata index coordinates agents deployed at source and target sites. The system uses content-addressable storage and delta-based transfers to minimize bandwidth, and supports HTTP(S), FTP, and rsync-like protocols. Integrity is verified with checksums and optional encryption during transit and at rest.

MirrorIt supports multiple replication modes, including one-to-many and many-to-one, and can operate in scheduled or event-driven modes. Features include incremental mirroring, selective filtering by path or type, bandwidth throttling, resumable transfers, and detailed audit logs. It provides RESTful APIs for automation and basic access control.

Typical operation begins with a configuration that specifies sources, targets, and access credentials. The system queries the source metadata, detects changed or new content, transfers updates, and then revalidates integrity on mirrors. A monitoring dashboard reports status, throughput, and error conditions, while administrators review logs for compliance and troubleshooting.

MirrorIt is released as open-source software under an open-source license and is developed by a volunteer community with a governance model based on contributor guidelines and a project steering group. The project maintains documentation, issue trackers, and release notes to support adoption and collaboration. It remains compatible with common storage backends and file-transfer services.
