Minkostnadsflödet

Minkostnadsflödet, which translates to "minimum cost flow" in English, is a fundamental problem in the field of network flow optimization. It involves finding a flow through a directed graph that satisfies certain demand requirements at each node while minimizing the total cost associated with the flow. Each edge in the graph has a capacity, which limits the amount of flow that can pass through it, and a cost per unit of flow.

The objective of the minkostnadsflödet problem is to determine the amount of flow on each edge such that the total cost is minimized, and for every node, the total flow entering the node minus the total flow leaving the node equals the node's demand. If a node has a positive demand, it requires that amount of flow to be supplied. If a node has a negative demand, it acts as a source, supplying flow to the network. Nodes with zero demand are typically transshipment nodes where flow is conserved.
