Mikrometrimääritys

Mikrometrimääritys is a Finnish term that translates to micrometer measurement or micrometer determination. It refers to the process of using a micrometer, a precision measuring instrument, to determine the exact dimensions of an object, typically its length, diameter, or thickness. Micrometers are capable of measuring with a very high degree of accuracy, often to within a few micrometers (millionths of a meter).

The principle behind a micrometer's operation involves a precisely machined screw. As the screw is rotated, its threaded shaft moves along a calibrated scale. This linear movement is directly proportional to the rotation, allowing for very fine adjustments and readings. The object to be measured is placed between a fixed anvil and a movable spindle. Rotating the thimble, which is attached to the screw, brings the spindle into contact with the object. The measurement is then read from the markings on the sleeve and the thimble.
