These displays were characterized by their ability to show small, distinct graphical elements or icons, often in a very limited color palette or monochrome. The term "mikroluokittelu" implies a fine-grained categorization or presentation of information at a very small scale.

These displays were not full-resolution screens like modern smartphones. Instead, they typically presented information in a segmented or icon-based format. For example, a simple status icon for battery level, signal strength, or an incoming message might be displayed.
