Mikrofluidikai, also known as microfluidics, is a field of science and engineering that deals with the behavior, control, and manipulation of fluids that are geometrically constrained to a small, typically sub-millimeter, scale. The study of microfluidics involves the design, fabrication, and characterization of devices that manipulate or analyze small volumes of fluids. These devices, often referred to as microfluidic chips or lab-on-a-chip devices, are used in various applications, including chemical analysis, biological research, medical diagnostics, and environmental monitoring.

The principles of microfluidics are based on the principles of fluid dynamics, but adapted to the unique conditions of small-scale flows. Key phenomena in microfluidics include laminar flow, surface tension effects, and electrokinetic phenomena. Microfluidic devices can be fabricated using a variety of techniques, including photolithography, soft lithography, and 3D printing. These devices often incorporate features such as microchannels, micropumps, and microvalves to control fluid flow and mixing.

One of the primary advantages of microfluidics is the ability to perform high-throughput, parallel analysis of small sample volumes.
