Migratsiooniamet

Migratsiooniamet is the Estonian government agency responsible for migration policy and administration. It operates under the Ministry of the Interior and coordinates with the Police and Border Guard Board to implement migration-related procedures for people coming to, staying in, or leaving Estonia.

Its core tasks include processing applications for residence permits and long-term stays, issuing visas for non-EU nationals, and handling asylum procedures. The agency also administers citizenship and naturalization processes, maintains records on foreign nationals, and provides information and guidance to migrants and employers. In addition, it develops and implements integration measures and collects migration statistics in cooperation with other state bodies.

The agency offers services through online channels and service desks, with decisions that can be appealed in the administrative system. It cooperates with foreign representations and other ministries on policy development, labour migration, and border management.

As a part of the executive branch of the Estonian state, Migratsiooniamet shapes migration policy and its practical execution in collaboration with the Police and Border Guard Board and other institutions.
