Metrolinx

Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario, Canada, responsible for improving the coordination and integration of all modes of transportation in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA). Established in 2006, its mandate includes planning, building, and operating transit infrastructure and services.

The agency oversees a wide range of transit networks, including GO Transit, which operates commuter rail and bus services across the GTHA. Metrolinx is also responsible for the regional express train network (RER), a major initiative to increase train frequency and service on existing GO Transit rail corridors. Additionally, Metrolinx plans and develops light rail transit (LRT) and bus rapid transit (BRT) projects within the region, aiming to expand transit options and reduce congestion.

Metrolinx's strategic plan focuses on creating a comprehensive, integrated, and sustainable transportation system. This involves enhancing existing services, building new lines, and connecting different transit modes to make it easier for people to travel within the GTHA. The agency works in collaboration with municipal transit agencies and other stakeholders to achieve its goals. Its projects aim to support population growth, economic development, and environmental sustainability in one of Canada's most populous regions.
