Methushael
Methushael, also spelled Methushelah, is a biblical figure mentioned in the Book of Genesis. He is the son of Enoch and the father of Lamech. According to the Genesis genealogy, Methushael lived for 969 years, making him the longest-lived person in the Bible. He is the seventh generation from Adam. His lineage is traced as follows: Adam, Seth, Enosh, Kenan, Mahalalel, Jared, Enoch, Methushael, Lamech, and Noah. The biblical account of Methushael's life is brief, primarily serving to establish his place in the antediluvian (pre-flood) patriarchal lineage. The longevity attributed to these early figures is often interpreted metaphorically or as a reflection of a different understanding of time or human lifespan in ancient narratives. Methushael's significance lies almost entirely in his genealogical position and his exceptionally long lifespan, which contributes to the narrative of a world populated by very long-lived individuals before the Great Flood. No further biographical details or actions are attributed to him in the biblical text.
