Meteorscatter

Meteorscatter is a method of radio communication that utilizes the ionized trails left behind by meteors passing through the Earth's atmosphere. When a meteor enters the atmosphere at high speed, it abl তাপs and ionizes the surrounding air. These ionized trails can persist for a short period, creating a temporary conductive path.

Radio signals, particularly in the VHF and UHF frequency bands, can reflect off these ionized trails. Radio operators transmit short, powerful bursts of data towards the predicted path of meteors. The ionized trail acts as a transient reflector, bouncing the signal back to a receiving station. Because the trails are short-lived, a continuous communication link is not possible. Instead, meteorscatter is used for sending short messages or data packets.

The effectiveness of meteorscatter depends on several factors, including the frequency used, the density of meteors, the transmit power, and the equipment's sensitivity. It is a form of non-line-of-sight communication that can achieve long distances, often over 1000 kilometers, when terrestrial paths are blocked. This communication mode is particularly popular among amateur radio enthusiasts and for emergency communication scenarios where traditional infrastructure might be unavailable. The process involves coordinating transmission and reception times and often relies on automated systems to decode the fragmented signals.
