Metallilämpömittarit

Metallilämpömittarit, known in English as metal thermometers, are devices used to measure temperature. They typically operate on the principle that the physical properties of a metal change predictably with temperature. Common types include bimetallic strip thermometers and resistance thermometers.

A bimetallic strip thermometer utilizes two different metals with different coefficients of thermal expansion bonded together. When heated, one metal expands more than the other, causing the strip to bend. This bending is then calibrated to indicate temperature on a dial. These are often found in ovens, thermostats, and some industrial applications.

Resistance thermometers, also known as Resistance Temperature Detectors (RTDs), rely on the property that the electrical resistance of a metal changes with temperature. Platinum is a common material for RTDs due to its stability and wide temperature range. As temperature increases, the resistance of the platinum wire increases. This change in resistance can be measured and converted into a temperature reading. RTDs are known for their accuracy and are used in a variety of scientific and industrial settings.

Other forms of metal thermometers may exist, but bimetallic and resistance types are the most prevalent. Their robust construction makes them suitable for many environments where other thermometer types might fail. The choice of metal and design depends on the specific temperature range, required accuracy, and the intended application.
