Messablaufs

Messablauf is a German term that refers to the sequence of actions performed to obtain and verify measurements. In practice it covers planning, setup, calibration, data acquisition, processing, and reporting of measurement results. The concept is used across science, engineering, metrology and quality control to ensure consistency and traceability.

Key elements include the measurement objective, the instruments and sensors, the measurement method, sampling or measurement frequency, environmental controls, calibration procedures and references, data acquisition systems, data processing and transformation, and the criteria for data acceptance. An effective Messablauf also specifies uncertainty estimation, error handling, and documentation of any deviations from the plan.

Variations: manual Messablauf performed by operators; automated Messablauf as part of a control system or laboratory software; in both cases, the procedure is documented as a formal workflow to enable reproducibility and auditability. In metrological contexts, the Messablauf aligns with standards for traceability and quality management, and includes calibration history and uncertainty budgets.

Example: temperature profiling in a lab: a sensor is connected to a data logger, stabilizes at a target temperature, readings are taken at defined intervals, a reference thermometer is used for calibration, data are corrected for sensor lag, and results are reported with an uncertainty estimate.
