Merkityksettömyyttä, sometimes translated as meaninglessness or purposelessness, is a philosophical concept that explores the absence of inherent value or purpose in life or the universe. It is a theme that has been examined by various philosophers and thinkers throughout history, often arising in discussions of existentialism, nihilism, and absurdism.

The concept suggests that life, or the cosmos as a whole, does not possess any predetermined meaning or ultimate goal. This absence of objective meaning can lead to feelings of existential dread, anxiety, or apathy. However, it does not necessarily imply that life is without value entirely. Instead, it opens the possibility for individuals to create their own subjective meaning and purpose.
