Membrántechnikák, often translated as membrane technologies, encompass a range of separation processes that utilize semi-permeable membranes to isolate substances. These membranes allow certain molecules or ions to pass through while blocking others, based on factors such as size, charge, or chemical affinity. The applications of membrane technologies are diverse, spanning industries from water purification and desalination to food processing, biotechnology, and gas separation.

Key types of membrane processes include microfiltration (MF), ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), and reverse osmosis (RO). MF and UF are primarily used for removing suspended solids and larger molecules, respectively. NF is effective for removing divalent ions and smaller organic molecules, while RO is the most powerful, capable of removing dissolved salts and very small molecules. Other significant membrane techniques include electrodialysis (ED), which uses electric fields to drive ion transport, and pervaporation, used for separating liquid mixtures by partial vaporization through a membrane. The choice of membrane material and pore size is critical for optimizing the separation efficiency for specific applications. Membrane technologies are valued for their energy efficiency, environmental friendliness, and ability to operate at ambient temperatures, making them a sustainable and versatile separation solution.
