Melskaalaan

Melskaalaan is a coastal town in the fictional region of Valara. It sits on a sheltered bay along the western coast of the Melskaalaan Strait, backed by low hills and mangrove flats. The harbor has long shaped the town’s economy and daily life.

Founded as a fishing village in the late medieval period, Melskaalaan grew through maritime trade and ship repair. It became an administrative center in the early modern era and preserves a historic waterfront with timber houses.

The local economy relies on fishing, seafood processing, and small-scale shipbuilding, with growing contributions from tourism and renewable energy projects. The town is served by a regional port authority and an intercity road network.

With about 12,000 residents, Melskaalaan is ethnically and linguistically diverse. The official language is Valaran, complemented by local dialects. The annual Harbor Festival showcases music, crafts, and boat races.

Governance is provided by a Municipal Council led by a mayor elected for four years. Public services include primary and secondary schools, a library, and coastal protection programs to manage erosion and storm risks.
