Melkens

Melkens are a fictional ethnolinguistic group described in world-building literature. They are traditionally associated with the Melk Archipelago, a chain of coastal islands in the eastern seas of the fictional continent of Eldoria. Population estimates vary; writers place the Melkens in the low to mid hundreds of thousands across islands and nearby mainland towns. The term Melken denotes both the people and their language.

The Melkan language features two major dialects, Northern Melken and Southern Melken, and is described as agglutinative with SVO word order and a rich tradition of oral poetry, with loanwords from neighboring trade languages.

Historically, the Melkens are said to have formed as a culturally distinct group after early maritime migrations. They developed boatbuilding, fishing, and trade networks, aided by their archipelago geography and seasonally navigable seas.
