Mekansk

Mekansk is a fictional city and municipality in Valoria, located in the northern part of Eldara. It serves as the administrative and economic center of Mekan Province and a regional transport hub.

The name Mekansk is of local origin, linked in early records to ideas of “meeting” or “crossing,” reflecting its historical role as a crossroads for merchants.

Founded as a riverside trading post in the 12th century, Mekansk grew with river traffic and later industrialization in the 19th century. It preserves parts of its medieval core while expanding around mills and rail yards.

Mekansk lies on the Mekan River, with relatively flat terrain and green surroundings. The climate is temperate, with warm summers and cool winters; annual precipitation averages 700–800 mm.

The city has a mixed economy anchored by a river port and rail junction. It hosts a university campus, technical colleges, and firms in machinery, metalworking, and electronics.

With about 82,000 residents, Mekansk is diverse. Valorian is the national language, with local dialects and minority languages present. The city hosts cultural festivals, a theatre season, and a riverfront market.

Municipal government is led by a directly elected mayor and city council. Notable sites include the 15th-century St. Lormin Cathedral, the Mekansk Museum of Industry, and the riverside promenade.
