Meiern

Meiern is a small municipality and village in a temperate central European landscape. It lies in the valley of the Meiern Creek, surrounded by low hills and agricultural land. The municipality covers 22.7 square kilometers and has a population of about 2,100 residents.

Meiern is first mentioned in written records in the 13th century. Over the centuries it was part of several feudal estates before becoming a municipality in the modern state system. Governance is by a municipal council elected by residents, with a mayor serving as head of the executive. The council typically numbers between seven and eleven seats. The community maintains a public primary school, a volunteer fire brigade, and several cultural associations.

The town hosts an annual harvest festival and a midsummer market that attract visitors from the surrounding region. Notable sites include the parish church of St. Martin (17th century) and a hilltop viewpoint offering views across the valley.
