Mehteran

Mehteran refers to the traditional Ottoman military band, also known as Mehterhane. It is one of the oldest marching bands in the world, with a history stretching back to the 13th century. The mehteran played a significant role in Ottoman military campaigns, boosting morale and intimidating enemies with their powerful music. The ensemble typically consisted of instruments such as drums (davul), trumpets (boru), cymbals (zil), and sometimes flutes (kaval).
