Megválasztandó

Megválasztandó is a Hungarian verbal adjective formed from the verb megválasztani (to elect). It denotes something that is to be elected or that is to be chosen by election, typically referring to a person or an office in a prospective or upcoming sense.

Formation and use: The suffix -andó attaches to the stem megválaszt- to yield megválasztandó. It is usually used attributively before a noun: a megválasztandó elnök (the president to be elected), a megválasztandó képviselő (the representative to be elected). In formal registers it can appear in a predicative position, but the attributive use is far more common.

Nuances and related terms: The meaning emphasizes the future stage of the election, not the fact that someone has already been elected. It is not synonymous with megválasztott (elected) or with választható (electable/eligible). For expressing eligibility to be elected, Hungarian typically uses megválasztásra jogosult or megválasztásra alkalmas.
