Mediastinust
Mediastinust refers to the mediastinum, a critical anatomical region in the thoracic cavity. It is the space between the lungs, encompassing the central compartment of the chest. This region is bounded anteriorly by the sternum, posteriorly by the vertebral column, laterally by the pleural sacs of the lungs, and superiorly by the thoracic inlet. Inferiorly, it is separated from the abdomen by the diaphragm.
The mediastinum is further subdivided into several compartments for clarity in anatomical study and clinical diagnosis.
Various organs and vital structures reside within the mediastinum, making it a focal point for many diseases.
