MeOHn

MeOHn is not a widely recognized chemical term. In informal or theoretical discussions, MeOHn denotes a species built from n methanol (MeOH) units, where n indicates the number of units.

There are two common interpretations. In polymer chemistry, MeOHn would imply a chain of MeOH-derived repeat units connected by hypothetical linkages; in cluster or solution studies, MeOHn can refer to discrete clusters of n methanol molecules held together by hydrogen bonds. In both cases, n is an integer that specifies size.

In polymer contexts, there is no widely accepted synthesis or stable, isolable methanol polymer; MeOHn is mainly a theoretical construct or shorthand used to discuss how properties scale with size. In cluster chemistry, MeOHn clusters are studied experimentally and computationally to observe size-dependent changes in structure, vibrational spectra, and binding energies.

Production and study methods include gas-phase synthesis via laser or supersonic expansion, matrix isolation, infrared spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry for detecting the cluster size. Computational chemistry, such as density functional theory, is also used to model MeOHn clusters and predict their properties.

Safety and terminology: Methanol is toxic; any handling should follow standard chemical safety guidelines. Because MeOHn is not standardized, researchers should specify the definition of n and the connectivity when using the term to avoid ambiguity.
