Matkasca

Matkasca, also known as Magkas, is an Attic dialect of the Greek language. It is an ancient dialect that was spoken in ancient Greece. The terms matkasca and Magkas are often used interchangeably, both refer to the dialect.

Matkasca was one of the many dialects spoken in ancient Attica, which comprised the city-state of Athens. It is classified as a Hellenic dialect, part of the Attic-Ionic group, which also includes Koine Greek, though matkasca is considered to be closer to Homeric Greek, an older and more inflected form of Greek.

Very little remains of matkasca written texts, unlike the more widely spoken Ionic dialect and Koine, which had a greater number of written records. Some extant inscriptions, ancient texts, and quotes show that matkasca was a distinct dialect.
