Materiaalikierrättää is a Finnish term that translates to "material recycling" or "recycling materials." It refers to the process of collecting, processing, and remanufacturing waste materials into new products. This practice is a cornerstone of sustainable resource management, aiming to reduce the need for virgin raw materials and minimize the environmental impact of waste.

The process of materiaalikierrättää typically involves several stages. First, waste materials are collected, often through separate collection systems for different material types such as paper, plastic, glass, metal, and organic waste. These collected materials are then transported to sorting facilities where they are further separated and cleaned. Once sorted, the materials are processed. For example, paper is pulped, plastics are melted and reformed, and metals are smelted. The processed materials then serve as raw materials for the manufacturing of new goods.
