Masaccio
Masaccio was a renowned Italian painter of the early Renaissance period. He was born in San Giovanni a Ponte, a small town in the Tuscany region, in 1401. His real name was Tommaso di Giovanni, but he was nicknamed Masaccio, which roughly translates to "bad signer" or "clumsy" in reference to his humble origins and perceived lack of artistic skill.
