Martinsried

Martinsried is a district of the municipality of Planegg in the district of Munich, Bavaria, Germany. It is located west of Munich, near the city limits. Historically, Martinsried was a small agricultural village. Its development significantly accelerated in the latter half of the 20th century, particularly with the establishment of research institutions and a science campus.

The Martinsried Science Campus is a major hub for life sciences research. It hosts numerous institutes of the Max Planck Society, including the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry and the Max Planck Institute of Neurobiology. The Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich also has significant facilities in Martinsried, notably its biology department and the Gene Center. This concentration of scientific activity has fostered a dynamic and innovative environment, attracting scientists and students from around the world.

Due to its proximity to Munich and its excellent research infrastructure, Martinsried has become an attractive location for biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.
